The first span of the Padma Bridge has been placed on pillars at Zajira end of the bridge.
The span was placed on the pillars no. 37 and 38. around 10am on Saturday in presence of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
A floating crane carried the 150-metre long superstructure weighing around 32 tonnes span since Sunday.
This is the first among the 41 spans to be installed for the 6.15 kilometers two-level bridge.
Officials and engineers said four more spans would be placed in October.
The construction of the bridge’s main infrastructure started in 2015.
The government expects to finish the project by December next year.
